Important Spotlight: Is Sugaring Paste or Wax best for you?

Sugaring Paste or Wax
Which is Right for you?

You've heard the saying "Love the Skin you're in"? Well, now you truly can love, adore, and feel sexy from your eyebrows to your toes!

THIS IS A VERY COMMON QUESTION

There are 2 Methods of Sugaring.

which, I believe warrants it's own subject page. Perhaps one of the most common questions asked on my Etsy Shop
Which method do I recommend?
The answer lies in your goals, hair thickness, nature and history. NOT the technique or method you'd like to learn and start your sugaring journey on. Really. It's true.
Perhaps you've shaved your entire life after puberty and your hairs are quite thick and dark?
Or..You shaved as a teen but then started waxing in your twenties and your hairs are already thinner by years of waxing.
Perhaps your ancestry passed down in your DNA thin hair?
Perhaps you are a teenager and you've never shaved before or just started shaving?

My Reply?

How thick is your hair and what is your ultimate goal?
Sugaring PASTE leads to permanent hair removal.
Sugaring WAX/ GEL does not.
Learn more about this AWESOME SUGARING BENEFIT HERE -
Both methods are far more gentle than waxing and have many benefits to your skin compared to common hair removal methods used in today's world.

Take a look at the following chart for further distinctions between the two sugaring methods:
It is a personal preference about which one you choose to embark on.
Sugaring:
  • Is not as painful as waxing.
  • The sugar seeps into pores ensuring a smooth extraction.
  • You don't experience the ingrown's and razor burn associated with shaving and waxing.
  • Is Eco- friendly (refer to)
  • is Earth safe and friendly
  • Is Skin friendly -It is ideal for anyone who has a problem with waxing or shaving and seeking an all natural alternative.
Sugaring paste is used at room temperature and requires only your fingers or an applicator.
Sugaring Gel is used slightly warmed (never HOT) with an applicator and reusable denim strips.

When the sugar is applied to the skin, it seeps into the hair follicles. This "lubricates" the hair, which allows the hairs to "glide" out more comfortably and gently.

This is the biggest contributor to the "less pain than waxing" factor. This method also minimizes any redness, irritation, hair breakage and ingrown hairs.

All this while simultaneously exfoliating dead skin cells! Sugaring is safe for all skin types (sensitive, itchy, psoriasis, eczema) and is safe on varicose veins and spider veins.

Sugaring Paste is thick like taffy. Sugaring Wax is thinner much like honey.

Sugaring Paste:

Cooked to a consistency much like a thick taffy. Organic Raw Sugar, Lemons, a smidgen of water. If you are a beginner or your hairs are thick by nature, start off with sugaring paste. Hairs will begin to grow back thinner and sparser (Read the "Science of Sugaring Hair Removal". Refer to Anagen Stage of Hair Growth - 1/8" growth.)

Sugaring Gel

is a lot like thick honey.
Organic Raw Sugar, Lemons, a smidgen of water. Great when your hairs are already thin from previous waxing or natural.
You can still use sugaring paste as well.

Getting a beautiful Clean Ponytail Look with Sugaring

I've been asked on a number of occasions to share videos of sugaring being done. I can share these professional estheticians performing sugaring all day long.
There's a lot of salons in populated areas such as
Seattle, WA, NY, Miami, LA, Fort Lauderdale and the like.
But until you have sugaring paste in your hand and
you are learning the method THAT is when you will have your
"AH-HA" moment and truly "get it" and understand HOW to sugar,
why it's so much more gentle and beneficial for your skin.
Sugaring removes hair from the back of the neck; keep the nape of your neck looking trim and smooth with sugar paste hair removal.

Vito Mazza Salon & Spa in Woodbridge, NJ
Presents Alexandria Professional Body Sugaring.
Men LOVE sugaring the nape of the neck! Why? Because the hair on the nape of the neck typically grows in before it is time to get a new hair cut. Most men will tell you they cannot stand the bushy, fuzzy hair that grows on their neck. The only drawback to this is that hair removal from this area is rather discomforting, more so than a Brazilian. The hair is strongly rooted and sometimes course. The discomfort will dissipate within 15-20 seconds. You can expect re-growth in 2-3 weeks, but it should be less dense and softer. The more you continue to this area, the finer your hair will become.
If you are a cosmetologist, this is a perfect example of a service you can offer your clients. Most cosmetologists I know have a passion for hair and not waxing. If you do offer waxing services to your clients, consider sugaring as an alternative. Sugaring is safer and yields superior results.

The outstanding truth about Sugaring the hairy, manly man

Why Yes! Men can use sugaring too! And your partner will thank you for it! Hey guys, here’s a sweet and less painful way of getting rid of your unwanted excess body hair!

Why Yes! Men can use sugaring too! And your partner will thank you for it! Hey guys, here’s a sweet and less painful way of getting rid of your unwanted excess body hair!
If you think only metrosexuals, gay men, or triathletes would choose to be hairless, think again. Hairlessness among men is surging in popularity for all types of guys, from straight to ultra conservative to liberal! Using this method of hair removal for men will result in smoother skin, longer lasting results and it's less painful than any other method!
Whether you call it manscaping, the Boyzilian, Manzillian, the Brozilian, of the Ultimate He-Wax, male bikini area hair removal is the latest trend tearing across the nation. More and more men are also opting to remove their chest hair, back hair, even nose hair!  And, no, the men are not just “competitive swimmers or underwear models” or copycat fans of the infamously smooth David Beckham, who almost single-handedly coined the term manscaping. Even regular guys are waxing down there.
I have a wide array of customers including your average Joe, bodybuilders, cyclists, swimmers, business men, and of course the Metro-sexual. These days men are waxing because they want a clean look and want to appear younger. A sugared body will define your muscle tone. All the hard work you do at the gym will pay off!
Since 1900 BC, Egyptians have been using this all-natural method of hair removal. Sugaring typically consists of sugar, lemon juice and water. Unlike wax, the sugar paste is attached to the hair rather than to the skin. Because sugar is hypoallergenic, it is safe to use on all skin types. What’s more, the sugar gentle exfoliates, removing dead skin cells in the process.
@JBHomemadeSugar blog post: Men can Sugar too!
Manscaping is gentler with #sugaring!
Is your desire to be hairless weather-related? Is she hinting at it? Or, have you been curious about how you would look with less hair? Whatever the motivation, more and more men are opting to remove some (if not all) of their hair! Between waxing, shaving, electrolysis, tweezing, trimming, and laser hair removal, men of all ages, sizes, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, and professions are getting rid of excess body hair.
Shaving is a thing of the past..No one likes to feel stubble on any part of a man and that is sure to occur when you put a blade to that delicate skin of yours. Especially when it starts to grow back, the itching? The upkeep of shaving alone is a job in itself. Sugaring alleviates that frustration for you!
Keeping a neat chest, back, shoulders, and more will make you appear cleaner and send the message that you care about grooming. Your body's musculature and shape are enhanced also. Also, less body hair; through body sugaring you will stay cooler in warm weather. Who likes a sweaty bear?
If you’ve been shaving your body parts including Chest, Legs, Back and hands with Razors – you absolutely have to give Sugaring a shot. Your hair will not grow for at least a month and eventually, it will become more and thinner and more invisible. Men’s skin is proven to be more sensitive than women’s, so sugaring is definitely the way you want to go because it is so much less painful than waxing and you won't have the worries of ingrown hairs! Sugaring is far superior to shaving for several reasons. Sugaring removes hair from the root, so it can last for up to six weeks or more depending on how many times in a row you have been sugared and how often.
@JBHomemadeSugar blog: Men can use sugaring too! And your partner will thank you for it
The exact opposite would be shaving. Consider the aggravation and frequency. Some people have to shave every day. But who will help you? Unless you are a professional athlete, you probably won’t be able to reach the middle of your back with just a razor, so people may start calling you Patchy the Clown. The angle to which you would have to move your arms might cause you to end up with nicks and cuts.

Personal Experience Story:

My ol' man (country boy that he is) used to get his underarms waxed when he was in high school playing football because the gear bothered and chafed his underarms. So he fully remembers the torture I was talking about in my previous post (here) of "getting waxed".

As I was nearing pound 21 of organic sugaring I had gone through learning the method of cooking this delicate ancient miracle, he asked me if I could sugar his back for him because we were in the heat of late spring and he works outside. The hairs on his neck and back were bothering him. I said "well sure honey but I am no expert at it yet."
He said "..lol...baby I've felt your legs and they speak for themselves. I know this stuff works and I trust you." (can I hear it? awww :-P )
I proceeded to stare at his back and neck for a moment studying the direction of his hair growth. Towards his spine. OK. I dusted him with cornstarch, rubbed gently to ensure that all moisture, if any was absorbed by the cornstarch all the while smoothing his hair towards his spine, somewhat brushing it if you will.
They were quite long but too long. He said "what are you doing? I thought you were using the sugar?" I said "I am sweety, I'm just preparing your hairs and your skin. Don't worry. I know what I'm doing by now." :-D I scooped out about a golf size amount of sugar from my glass jar I had so lovingly filled with the sweet mixture. I gave him a kiss and said "don't be mad at me if it hurts you. I know you're a tough guy but this will be a first for you."
I then proceeded to spread the sweet mixture into his skin/hair with some slight pressure in the opposite direction of his hair growth. His hair grows towards the spine, so I spread toward his shoulder blades...) He said: "it feels like you're tugging my hairs but it doesn't hurt."
By then I was on the third pass over (Rub 3 times in the opposite direction of hair growth). I had made my lip (by curling my fingers slightly at the tip of each pass through.
I said: "ok honey, ready". He said "all right, go ahead."
I proceeded to grab hold of the lip and quickly flicked three times towards his spine.
He didn't even flinch! No reaction whatsoever. He turned his neck towards me and asked: "That's it?"
I said "Yep. How's it feel?" He said simply "Proceed my love". And with that, I did so.
And continue to do so about once a month and am now doing his neck for him as well. He may be a country boy, but he likes a clean cut look!
Men can sugar from your brows to your toes and everything in between - with the only exception being the beard!

♦ Activities that result in perspiration should be avoided
♦ For best results, your next sugaring session should be after 4-5 weeks
@JBHomemadeSugar Sugaring for Men tip: You need to trim to no longer than 1/4 inch
What happens if I become erect?
Even though this is a very popular question this rarely ever happens. I have had customers tell me they thought they might enjoy the experience, until the first pull.
The sugaring technique is a manual technique that requires movement and handling of your "package". There isn't anything sexual about the experience at all. If anything it feels more clinical.
Is this going to be like the 40 year virgin?
No it won't . Movies are made for entertainment so situations tend to be exaggerated. Although it may be uncomfortable your first time due to the texture and density or your hair. You won't cry or scream.
Each session after the first is always better and more tolerable.
@JBHomemadeSugar Awesome #Sugaring Tip: Being hairless in this manzillian area increases sensation for many men.

Male Sugaring for pubic hair removal first hand accounts from "around the web"

I did the sugaring wax. I actually did a test run on my face first. Gotta say the hairs being yanked out under neath your chin on the neck, gives you a split second of OMG!! S@&T F&^K that hurt, then a good laugh that wasn’t so bad. So after my test run on my face, good news very NICE I liked it. I liked the results, enough to go down to the nether regions. So after yanking out hairs on the pubic bone area and on the shaft, I opted to just shave the ol balls. I like the sugaring wax, the pain is all in the first split second of yanking off the wax the first couple times then the area is sort of accustomed to it, then the rest is not bad at all. Best part about it is if your like me and have to shave everyday to keep a clean shave the sugar wax lets you go longer without having to shave. The appearance is very nice in both places on the face and in the groin. Since doing my sugar waxing I have gone a week and half without having to shave, and still smooth as silk. I’m hoping with the repeated times of sugar waxing the time in between waxing will be longer, and the hairs will pull out easier. I recommend this process to anyone man or woman. Smooth skin, no razor bumps, or ingrown hairs, very nice appearance. 10 thumbs up.
Just had my third sugaring session. I think it’s less painful at each repetition as the body hair gets thinner and there is less to tear off. After 20 minutes the lady was done with me and I laid there a bit astonished how fast it was over. Recommending, recommending, recommending…!
Found Oskar on Yelp while searching for men's sugaring places. I was interested in sugaring as I have very sensitive skin, and the sugaring paste is all-natural and free of harmful chemicals that are usually found in wax. Plus, it is far less painful than waxing. The discomfort is minimal and very short lasting.
I had a great experience here. Oskar is very professional and friendly, and makes you feel very comfortable. He frequently pauses to ask how you are feeling and if you would like a break, something to drink, etc. He cares about your making your experience as low-stress as possible. The space is very clean and tidy. It is very private and he also plays good music.
I've already recommended him to all my friends, and I will definitely go back.
This was my first time with any sort of hair removal, so I was a bit nervous. Oskar is kind and funny and was able to put at me ease quickly. He clearly explained the process of sugaring. He was always professional. Oskar often checked-in to make sure everything was ok before continuing. The next day, there was little to no redness or irritation. I went to Oskar about 1 month ago, and I'm still pleased with the results!
I have been getting waxed routinely for nearly a decade and was skeptical of trying sugaring. I went to Oskar at the beginning of the summer for the first time and it is definitely going to replace my routine waxings. He does a thorough job while still being quick and efficient. He is also very knowledgeable about his craft. Definitely recommend to friends!
Mr. Morett was very professional and knew exactly what he was doing (as I did a prior research on sugaring). I left in complete awe as to how my body and skin felt after the procedure and I would most definitely recommend EVERYONE to go to him for his services.
I went to have my back done and have had both waxing and laser done for this in the past.  It seems everyone else is always looking to get more money from me when I mention doing more than their quickest treatment, such as my shoulders or arms.  Oskar however, has the same idea as me about complete coverage.  He did my back as far as he could reach on either side and I was willing to allow down my bum, my shoulders (practically to my elbow), and my neck as well.

To top it all off, the sugar removal was maybe one tenth as painful as any other treatment I have had.  Can tell you that I will never wax again, not as long as Oskar is around to do a better job - both more personal and more professional as I said before.
Sugaring is much better than waxing! I have been going to him (Oscar) for a few years now. He is a master at sugaring and tries to minimize any discomfort as much as he can. I have referred friends to him and everyone thinks he's great. Whether going for your back, chest, butt, or other body part, you can expect cleanliness, professionalism, courtesy and privacy from Oskar. For those who might be concerned about pain when sugaring the butt and/or groin area, I have to say that Oskar is speedy and thorough. While obviously you cannot totally eliminate sensitivity in these areas, you leave feeling great and without redness. I have never regretted my decision to sugar instead of wax and would recommend Oskar to anyone who asks.
Wow I'm so happy my gf introduced me to Cane and Stephanie! Sugaring is so much easier on my skin than waxing. After one sugar session with Stephanie I'm hooked. My back looks and feels amazing. She is so gentle and walked me through the entire process. Can't wait to thin my hair out!
I went in for male sugaring service with Eboni, the place is very clean and Eboni was extremely professional. I was nervous at first, but she had great bedside manner and put me at ease. She explained the whole process and gave great aftercare advice on how to avoid in grows . My skin felt great and I am now a fan of both Eboni and sugaring. Definitely recommended!
I have been receiving sugar hair removal services for 6 years, and Eboni is one of the best at what she does. I first started receiving sugaring services from Eboni when she worked at Bare by Tru, and I followed her to Glamour Puss when she joined up with Sara Holmes.
Eboni has a very pleasant, calming presence. She takes her time, does not skimp on the amount of body powder or sugar used, and doesn't try to take off too much hair in each pull. She's also very meticulous, and will go over the sugared areas with tweezers to pick out any stray hairs that may have slipped through the cracks.
As a male that gets sugaring services done (including brazillians), it can be hard to find an esthetician that is comfortable working on men, good at what she does, and has good tableside manners. Eboni has it all. I highly recommend her!
After the sugaring, my boyfriend goes nuts over my nads. Smooth as silk filled with twice as much butter.

The Interesting History of the Ancient Sugaring method

History shows that women and men were expected to be smooth.

The history of body sugaring dates back to the ancient Egyptian era. Inspired by Alexander the Great, the women of Alexandria considered a hairless body to be the standard of beauty, youth, and innocence. Persian women used a traditional sugaring paste called moum.
Sugaring, sugar waxing or Persian waxing is a method of hair removal that has been in use since 1900 BC.
Cleopatra
Women of Alexandria considered a hairless body to represent beauty, youth, and innocence. #sugaring #jbhomemade

Sugaring was also known as sukkar in the Middle East and in Egypt, as agda in Turkey, and as moum in Iran. Middle Easterners used a hair removal process called body sugaring, involving the application of a natural, sugar-based paste (usually sugar, lemon and other natural ingredients cooked to the consistency of soft taffy) that was either rubbed or pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth.
The high sugar content inhibited bacterial growth in the region's hot environment. The method reputedly was born out of a Middle Eastern bridal ritual. The night before a wedding, Lebanese, Palestinian, Turkish and Egyptian brides had all body hair, except eyebrows and the hair on their heads, removed by the bridal party. According to lore, the bride maintained her hairless body throughout her marriage as a symbol of cleanliness and respect for her husband.
JBHomemade History of Sugaring 1 I find this all absolutely fascinating. I mean come on; since I was a teenager and I started shaving I've hated it. I've hated the goosebumps I get when I get out of the shower making my legs feel as if I hadn't even just got done shaving! I've hated the bumps and the razor burn, nicks that sting, the ingrown hairs!! Ohhh lawwdy I hate ingrown hairs. I've been waxed three times in my life and I've never (aside from childbirth) experienced that much pain. And I was a ballet dancer as a child...I remember my toes hurting like you wouldn't believe. I'll never get waxed again.
JBHomemade History of Sugaring 2 Of those experiences I remember the yank which resulted in tears, redness, raw skin, sensitive for days mind you, the uncomfortable knowledge that it was I was putting myself through this...well torture for lack of better terms...not the esthetician. It wasn't her making me do it. It was me! I wish back then I had known about sugaring. It took practice, don't get me wrong. But from the first time I tried and somewhat did it like I was taught, I've not had an ingrown hair, nick, burn, raw skin, sensitive skin for days...none of it.
JBHomemade History of Sugaring 3 I'm converted to sugaring 100%. And with all the research I've done on the benefits of sugaring, I know that I am not only benefiting my skin, being earth-friendly, naturally removing my hairs where I especially do not want them and it's so much gentler! I equate it to tearing off a band-aid real quick. Not hot because it's never used hot, always room temperature.
