How do you use the sugaring wax?

Warm your wax in either a bowl of hot water, or for in 10 second intervals in your microwave until the wax has the consistency of syrup - take care not to exceed 30 seconds total. Remember it should be somewhat warm, but NEVER hot! Always start with clean, dry skin. Apply a thin layer of cornstarch provided (or baby powder). Using the applicator provided spread a thin layer of the sugaring gel/wax in the OPPOSITE direction of hair growth in the desired area. Apply a denim strip. While holding the skin taut, rub the denim strip back and forth creating heat friction so that the sugaring wax can soak into your hair follicles. QUICKLY remove the strip pulling in the SAME direction of the hair growth. While you technically can apply sugaring gel/wax in the same direction of hair growth and remove the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth, I don't recommend it. You will have much longer lasting results if you remove in the same direction as the hair follicles will be removed from the root rather than breaking unevenly.

How do you use the sugaring paste?

General Instructions: Make sure your skin is clean and dry. Rub a small layer of corn starch into the area to be pasted. Using either the applicator or your fingertips spread an approximately 1/8" thick layer of the sugaring paste in the OPPOSITE direction of hair growth in the desired area three times, using slight pressure. ►When using the finger method: as you spread the paste each time, lightly flip your fingers up on the last ½ inch of the area to create a “lip” to hold onto. When you are ready, on the third "spread", grab a hold of that “lip” and QUICKLY remove the sugaring paste using a Flicking motion in the SAME direction of the hair growth. ►When using the applicator: On the third spread, QUICKLY remove the sugaring paste using a Flicking motion in the SAME direction of the hair growth.◄ See video for demonstration of flicking motion.

What IS sugaring? I'm curious...

Sugaring in general is a hair removal, or epilation, technique that has been used for centuries (all the way back to ancient Egypt and that beauty guru Cleopatra, Persia and Arabia!) but it's just now becoming popular in the states. Overseas, many cultures have used sugaring in one form or another.

How long will the results of Sugaring Last?

The simple answer is about 2-3 weeks. There are variants however, such as #1 First time users, lifetime shavers, different ethnicities and those whose hairs are quick growers, results may last a shorter period AT FIRST> once you've sugared a couple of times, your hairs will begin growing slower, finer and sparser.

Does it hurt?

I can answer in my opinion No way. (Depending on your sensitization, tolerance of pain level, etc., that is.) This answer varies as well. Variants: #1 - Length of hair (most people report that the longer the hair is, the more the sugar is felt is the spreading action, but less so in the removal action).**Trim hair to 1/4" for best results for a first time user. **After the first use, hair can be as short as 1/8" and it is even less painful than the first time because hairs are already finer and sparser.#2 – #2 - Use of corn starch or powder greatly reduces the amount of pain. #3 - Follow instructions to the tee! Research, watch vids, and see in action before attempting blind. Know what you are doing before you try it. If you are local...come to one of my parties or schedule your own personal consultation or private party and I will sugar you for free so that you can experience the petal soft gentle removal yourself!

Is it messy?

It can be if you do your sugaring in an un-ideal environment. In other words, Always store you’re Organic Sugar Paste in a cool, dry place, Ideally between 60-70°. Likewise, your environment when sugaring should be COOL AND DRY. Use a fan blowing on you. Do not try to sugar when you are warm, just out of shower, or just exercised. Your skin will be too warm. Remember: Sugar is temperature sensitive. The temperature of your skin and the temperature/humidity of the room you are in play a role to your success. If paste gets to warm, it will stick to you. Many have success when they get "stuck" by applying a strip of cut fabric such as denim to the area and removing like you would wax. I provide a nifty applicator with any purchase which comes in handy in avoiding #1-messes #2-ease of application. Paste should have a taffy-like texture when ready to use. Do a “finger print test”. Open jar, dip your finger into jar like you are going to make an indentation. Your FINGERPRINT should be the only thing that happens when you remove your finger. If the Organic Sugar Paste tries to stick to your finger and come out of the jar with your finger, it is TOO WARM for the Traditional Method. Cool it slightly in the Fridge for 10 minute increments. DO NOT LEAVE IN fridge.

Did you invent this?

Ohhh lordy no! The Ancient Egyptians did!

Tips to Reduce Pain before Waxing/Sugaring?

To help ease the pain associated to hair removal, try the tips below: 1) Avoid drinking caffeine, alcohol, and other stimulants at least a day before your treatment 2) Drink ibuprofen, mefanamic acid, or other OTC pain killers 30 minutes before your treatment 3) Exfoliate! This will help slough off dead skin cells, making it easier to pull the hair out 4) Pregnant women and women with their periods are more sensitive to pain. 3 days before, during, and 3 days after your period makes your skin sensors extra sensitive–be aware of this, and you will have a more pleasant experience. Although, you can still get a treatment, you can just try to be braver or more tolerant. 5) Try the gentler sugaring technique since it takes the hair out more subtly than hot waxing because it does not take a huge chunk of the hair out in one go. It allows your sensors to adjust to the process during treatment. Remember, heightened skin sensors will make you sensitive to each pull.

Will the hair grow back darker and coarser?

No. On the contrary, the hair will grow back thinner. Sugaring removes the hair from the root, thus discouraging hair growth. Regular usage, particularly during the winter months, will noticeably reduce hair growth and the re-growth takes longer to appear and is considerably thinner.

How long before hair re-grows after sugaring?

Generally, sugaring hair removal lasts between 2-3 weeks, depending on the level of hair growth. This varies from one person to another. Hair growth will not necessarily be equally distributed. Hair grows at different rates. Repeated sugaring treatments, however, weakens the hair so it becomes easier over time. As little as 2mm of re-growth can be removed with the sugaring treatment.

Your hair should be between 2 and 5mm (about the size of a grain of rice) in length for optimum results. For bikini: At least two weeks full of growth if you have been shaving, at least 3 weeks full of growth if you have been waxing or sugaring. Allow at least 3 to 4 weeks of growth for optimal results. For Underarm: At least 10 to 14 days of growth. For Full Face: At least 3 to 4 weeks full of growth between treatments. For Full Leg: At least 4 full weeks of growth. For Back/chest: At least 4weeks full of growth. For Eyebrows: At least 2 weeks full of growth.

For your comfort, it is recommended that you do not sunbathe or use a tanning bed for 48 hours prior to or after any sugaring treatment. Avoid putting any moisturizers on the skin 24 hours before the treatment. Also, some women find that their skin is extra sensitive when they are pre-menstrual.

What should I do after my treatment?

Your skin will be smooth and moisturized after sugaring. Your skin may be a little more sensitive. Use the provided Pure Aloe Vera Gel for soothing the skin. I also recommend the daily use of a loofah on the body to remove dead skin cells. This will leave the skin smooth and polished and will minimize any chance of ingrown hairs. This is particularly important in the bikini and underarm areas. We do however recommend not to loofah the day before, day of, or day after your treatment, as the skin may become oversensitive.

How do I wash the used denim strips (from sugaring wax) afterwards?

After use, leave the denim strips in warm water, then rinse. Sugaring Paste is water soluble; you can easily wash and re-use the strips.

Can the hair removal by sugaring last forever?

It is possible to become permanently hairless if you sugar yourself correctly and regularly. If and how long it will take you to stay hairless depend on several factors. As every human being is an individual, there are individual hair types, so it could be the case that you stay hairless after a few treatments whereas others may need much more. Also, the method you previously used to remove hair has a strong influence. Hair growth intensity is stronger in some areas of the body than in others; in these areas it will naturally take more treatments.

Is it ok to have sex the same day I get my bikini sugared? Should I wait to have sex after a Brazilian sugaring?

Typically the skin is red and irritated after waxing and so it’s recommended to avoid sexual activity for 48 hours. However, with sugaring, the skin will not be as sore afterwards (or very minimal discomfort) so usually you can have sex within 2-4 hours of the treatment. Basically, you want most of the inflammation gone before causing more friction/irritation to the skin. Everyone reacts a little differently depending on their skin and hair type so it does vary from person to person.

Does Sugaring hurt as much as waxing?

Many people describe their sugaring experiences as less painful than waxing. Also, they have found that any residual redness, if any, post sugaring diminishes much more quickly. Keep in mind that hair is being removed from the follicle at the root so the extraction is not completely sensation-free. However, with regular sugaring the skin will become desensitized.

What should i do to prepare for my appointment?

24 hours prior to sugaring, gently exfoliate and re-hydrate your skin. It is recommended that you begin with clean skin without lotions, deodorants or oils. The very best results begin with skin care at home. Between treatments keep your skin exfoliated and well-hydrated. Also, never use a razor, depilatory creams or tweezers. This will interfere with the refinement and diminishment of your hair growth and your goal to have smooth and healthy skin.

Why do you apply sugaring the opposite of wax?

Sugar works best when applied opposite the hair growth and pulled with the hair growth. This is opposite of waxing. However, this is more of a guideline than a rule as you will discover that sugar does pull hair out when applied all sorts of different directions. In general, you will find that the most hair gets pulled out by the root when applied against the hair and removed with the hair growth. When applying the sugar by hand, you can curl your fingers to help lift the sugar into the hair to ensure the hair is wrapped up in the sugar before removing it.

Why can you go over the skin more than once?

With waxing, it can be dangerous to go over the skin more than once because the wax is so sticky that it pulls the top layer of skin off. Sugar is different because it only adheres to dead skin cells and not live skin cells because of the water in live tissue. Sugar is safe to go over the skin multiple times, especially when using powder as a protection layer. Be careful to not overdue it on sensitive skin like eyebrows or men’s scrotum. The thinner skin cannot tolerate as much repeated sugar applications. Most body areas like arms and legs, can tolerate many applications of sugar before the skin is ‘raw’ or inflamed.

How do I choose which type of sugaring is best for me?

I am prone to ingrowns, what can I do to help this?

Using a natural bristle body brush, exfoliating cloth or brush, or our Exfoliating scrub (recommended); you’ll keep dead skin cells from trapping new hair growth under your skin. If you find your ingrown are painful and pustulous, add an antibacterial ingredient to disinfect and help draw out the bacteria.

What is the difference between Sugaring and waxing?

There are several differences: Wax has many chemical ingredients while Sugar Paste is 100% natural. Wax needs to be heated up to a very high degree in order to become liquefied, causing potential burning, scarring and swelling in the tissues resulting in difficult hair removal. Body Sugar is warm, not hot, and will never burn the skin. Wax adheres directly to the skin cells, making it painful and irritating. Sugar won’t stick to skin cells; it removes dead skin cells so it also exfoliates during the process. Wax cannot be applied to one area more than once, so a missed spot cannot be corrected. Body Sugar can be used over and over in the same area to remove stubborn hairs. Wax contains resin and can break hairs while Sugar surrounds the hair and pulls it out cleaner and easier. Waxy residue is difficult to remove – chemicals or heavy oils are usually needed. Body Sugar is water soluble and leaves the skin silky and smooth!
